Right now it turns the whole screen blue for about half a second, and while it's great and I notice it, I can't help but feel it doesn't look very refined.
Is there some way I can add my own picture to replace the uniformly blue splash notification?

There is no way to change that behavior, the reason for the color bg is because an image takes too long to show, a whole bg-color fill is a lot faster.
You can disable the splash if you dont want to see it anymore tho.
